Frequently Asked Questions
The first step is to fully complete a Little Colorado Sanitary District Sewer Connection Application, available for download on this website under Forms and Documents. Once your application is submitted and fees are paid, the District engineer will review your construction plans and SST capacity details. Additional engineering fees may apply for more complex systems.
Each property must have its own Solids Separation Tank (SST), and the installation must meet District and state standards. Before service can begin, the SST and its connection must be inspected and approved by the District operator.
For complete requirements, please see the District’s Rules and Regulations, available on this website.
Please call Little Colorado Sanitary District FIRST, before the plumber, we will give you a free inspection of the outside sewer line (not in your home). If the problem is on LCSD’s side of the sewer line, we will repair it at no charge. If the repair is on the customers side, we recommend you call a local plumber.
Your sewer bill is based on the number of Equivalent Dwelling Units (EDUs) assigned to your property. An EDU is a standard unit the District uses to estimate sewage flow (for example, one single-family home = 1 EDU). Other types of properties, such as apartments, motels, or RV spaces, are assigned EDUs according to District guidelines and the Uniform Plumbing Code.
When you connect to the system or make changes that affect wastewater use, the District reviews your plans and calculates the number of EDUs. Each EDU is charged a set fee, which covers your share of the cost of building, operating, and maintaining the system.
For more detailed information on how EDUs are determined, please refer to the District’s Rules and Regulations, available on this website.
Sewer service is billed quarterly to the property owner of record. Bills are issued at the start of each quarter and are due by the last day of that quarter. If payment hasn’t been received within 15 days after the quarter ends, a $25 late fee will be added to the next bill.
Property owners are responsible for maintaining and repairing the secondary sewer line on their property (the line that connects their Solids Separation Tank to the District’s main sewer line). All work must be performed by a licensed contractor and inspected by the District.
If a property owner fails to act and the integrity of the system is at risk, the District may step in to make necessary repairs, and the costs will be billed to the property owner.
For complete details on maintenance responsibilities, please see the District’s Rules and Regulations, available on this website.
